Metal dreams of acquiring a form, a form imagines to be free of any materiality. Thus a dialectic is set. A dialectic where metal endlessly moves towards having a form and a form relentlessly moves towards getting rid of any materiality and equilibrium comes into being.
On this delicate equilibrium Jaya invents sculptures. Sculptures which may present characters of circus, Or not yet commercialized games like top playing, fugadi, gilli danda, kite flying etc. all the acrobats of all kinds but at the core of all these thematic variations lies the dialect that we spoke about form and the metal.
Jaya’s sculptures are in search of lightness that frees the forms from the gravity. One finds in these sculptures a constant play between the lightness and gravity, of metal losing its metalness and becoming lines. Jaya is not only looking for the ephemeral balance in forms but also in a way of time, of times present and times past. In these contemplations, gravity is being defied and the forms float in the realm of dreams.
Jaya’s work oscillates between gravity and lightness, between dreams and reality and they get to a serene balance in this process.
